In December 2014, Forbes India announced the winners for its “Philanthropy Awards 2014.” The prominent magazine awarded top business leaders who have used their skills and resources to solve some of India’s most pressing problems. Desh Deshpande, the Founder of the Deshpande Foundation, was awarded as the “Distinguished Non-Resident Philanthropist” for his efforts in helping Indian NGOs scale-up.
Desh Deshpande has helped transform multiple NGOs including Akshaya Patra. Based in India, Akshaya Patra provides over 1.4 million children mid-day meals every single day.
“As an entrepreneur, you need to identify a problem and scale up,” says Deshpande. “The same holds true for the philanthropy space where people need help scaling up. That is where we step in.”
Forbes India awarded other top leaders including Anand Mahindra (Chairman of the Mahindra Group) and T.V. Mohandas Pai (Chairman of Manipal Global Education Services).
