ASHUTOSH PRATAP SINGH
Ashutosh has a bachelor’s of technology in computer science. For the last four years, he worked with Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCSL) on corporate social responsibility. Specifically, his work involved the use of computer-based functional literacy software for implementation in the adult literacy campaign of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
Ashutosh has worked extensively in rural Uttar Pradesh and conducted Prerak Trainings in villages. He was also a student entrepreneur and led an organization called SANKET, which generated funds and resources, recruited associates, published magazines, organized events and provided a platform for creativity. On his last assignment in Israel, he witnessed the Israel-Palestine conflict. This inspired him to work fulltime for international development, and Ashutosh intends to use his education and skills to make information technology work for the poorest of the poor. He believes this fellowship experience will enable him to utilize his corporate experiences to create and implement new business models for sustainable development. |

CHINNABABU N.
Chinna Babu was born and brought up in Hubli. He is 24 years old. He received his early primary and secondary education in Hubli and later joined ITI in Govt. ITI in electrical trade. Afterward he was selected in a campus interview by P&G, Bhopal (M.P) for a one-year apprenticeship training in the electrical department and as a packing machine operator. After returning from Bhopal he pursued his diploma in electronics and communication engineering from St. John’s Polytechnic and was also recognized as Best Student of the Year in 2006. After degree completion, Chinna Babu was offered an opportunity to work at St. John’s Polytechnic as an assistant lecturer for two years. He also holds an MBA from the Global Business School, Hubli.
In the past he has been a trainer and key member of the “MY HOPE INDIA” Project of the Billy Graham Evangelical Association’s a Worldwide Ministry in 2006. In 2007 he worked for the “BOOK OF HOPE” Project, an Australian project, among children as a trainer. He also has experience in HIV/AIDS counseling and was involved in a six-month survey for World Vision on AIDS awareness amongst slum dwellers. His hobbies include reading books, watching TV, meeting friends and playing indoor and outdoor games. |

JAGADISH KATKAR
Jagadish studied rural development at Karnataka State Open University, and his primary interest is in wildlife conservation and tribal welfare. As a volunteer, he worked for the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE). With the Center for Wildlife Studies, Karnataka Forest Department, he participated in a ‘Tiger Distribution Survey,’ ‘Elephant Census’ and ‘Elephant Habitat Usage Survey’ in the rainforests of the Western Ghats and Bannerghatta National Park.
In addition to his wildlife work, he has worked with street children as a volunteer in the Don Bosco Centre for Rehabilitation. There he assisted in conducting summer camp activities for children. He currently works as a school coordinator for the ‘Akshara Foundation,’ where he is in charge of implementing education programs in government primary schools. Additionally, he was involved as social worker for ‘Shishu Mandir,’ where he coordinated women’s self-help groups. In his spare time, Jagadish likes to go trekking and bird watching, and he also enjoys reading books on wildlife conservation written by Dr. Ullas Karanth and K.M. Chinappa.

KANCHANA K. B.
Kanchana K.B. is an HIV/AIDS counselor who worked at Alva’s Health Centre in Moodubidri prior to the Fellowship. She completed her master’s in social work and also has a master’s in English and bachelor’s in journalism. Her areas of expertise lie in individual and group behavior related areas: communication, family education, child welfare, medical and psychiatric social work and social work research.
Kanchana did her HIV/AIDS modulation training at KSAP Tuberculosis Training Centre in Mangalore, and she also received a Certificate of Human Resource Development from SDM College, Ujire. Her goal is to fully utilize her abilities to meet an organization’s goals and to promote her personal growth. |

MADHUKESHWAR BHAT
Madhukeshwar Bhat comes from a small village in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. In 2001, he completed his post graduation in rural economics and farm management from Karnataka University, Dharwad. For the last six years, he has been working with development organizations in the areas of: project management, field inspection and assessment, surveys and research and statistical analysis. This work has primarily been completed in the areas of education and health, in both urban and rural areas. Madhukeshwar has traveled extensively in different locations of North Karnataka and is well-versed in the culture and life patterns of various types of people. He enjoys cooking and listening to music in his free time. |

MEGHA HEGDE
Megha Gajanan Hegde is from Sirsi, in the district of Uttara Kanada, Karnataka. She finished her B.Sc in agriculture from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. Though she has not yet worked with an NGO, she received ample exposure to the development sector and rural communities during her degree program. In that program, she visited many villages and interacted with the rural community, which helped her to know about communities, rural lifestyles and the problems that the rural poor face in this globalized world.
She aspires to work in agriculture and rural development, and she feels that this Fellowhsip will provide her with invaluable experience.

NETRAVATHI D.RADDI
Prior to the Deshpande Fellowship Program, Netravathi worked at the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), Belgaum. As a counselor in ICTC (Integrated Counseling and Testing Center) Unit, she worked with peer educators that teach sex education and other educational activities to their fellow students. Additionally, Netravathi was involved in community services and resource mobilization activities for FPAI, all of which are related to sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS. She recently attended the National Training Camp at FPAI’s Headquarters in Mumbai, at which she received training on counseling for injection drug users, sexually transmitted infections, sex workers, pre- and post-HIV test sessions with various target groups and reporting and documenting. |

PARAMJEET BERNAD
A creative artist, Paramjeet is dedicated and committed to working in the NGO social sector by using various communication tools for social development. Having completed his M.A. in sociology, Paramjeet is one of the founding members of Sanchar Integrated Social Development. He writes poetry, songs, stories and plays, and he has also worked on traditional media. Paramjeet has directed and produced some films on various social issues. He also uses communication tools like theatre, street play, dance, film and seminars for social development purposes. |

PRAMOD KUMAR K.S.
Pramod completed his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from P.E.S.C.E, Mandya and his master’s degree in management of non-profit organizations (MNPO) from Vivekananda Institute for Leadership Development (VILD), Mysore. During Pramod’s internship training at the Centre for Appropriate Rural Technologies, he became informed on sustainable technologies. He has also worked as a resource person in the Youth for Development project at VILD.
During his two-year course, Pramod studied various issues of management in and of the non-profit sector, including planning, human resource management and financial management. He has gained work experience in both project-based activities and management in the development sector. Pramod believes his strength is his ability to change. |

PREETI SWAMY
Preeti was born and brought up in the village of Tripurant in Basavakalyan Taluk in Bidar District. She completed her schooling and college studies (BA) in Basavakalyan town.
After graduation, she worked with Prawarda as a community organizer and then worked with Orbit as a training ffficer. She returned to Prawarda and continued working there as a training officer. Her greatest interests lie with issues of development, such as poverty, illiteracy, deprivation, inequality, ill-health and unemployment. Preeti’s goal in life is to become a successful social change agent by reaching out to as many needy people as possible across the world.
Her hobbies include reading, specifically books on management, innovative social development interventions, women’s issues, etc.
