On October 31st, Queens University, in Kingston Ontario, announced the renaming of its university wide innovation and entrepreneurship initiative as the Dunin-Deshpande Queens Innovation Centre in recognition of a significant gift from Desh and Jaishree Deshpande together with fellow Queens’ alumni Andrew and Anne Dunin. Dr. Gururaj ‘Desh’ Deshpande graduated with a PhD from Queens University in 1979. The investment will allow the university to significantly expand its programming for students and help drive innovation and entrepreneurship across the region.
“Universities will play a different and an important role in the 21st century; they have to be relevant to the world and have both social and economic impact,” says Dr. Deshpande. “I am pleased that Queen’s University is taking a lead to make innovation and entrepreneurship be a part of its DNA and redefine the role of universities in Canada.”
