The Merrimack Valley Sandbox (MVS) will host their annual Development Dialog at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center on April 25th and 26th. The conference showcases the work of the student entrepreneurs from the area schools, colleges and youth programs and provides an opportunity to learn about the innovative programs being driven by the MVS.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Tony Medhurst, President, Harrow College, UK who has instituted an entrepreneurship unit for every entering student, with positive results for student entrepreneurship and also for student academic achievement. He will talk about the impact of entrepreneurship on the institution, and the process of leading the College to embrace this innovation.
In addition, Nishith Acharya, Director of the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Commerce will be holding Entrepreneur in Residence Office Hours where community members will have an opportunity to learn about federal resources available for entrepreneurs.
The aspiring student entrepreneurs will have a chance to hear Claudia Espinola, CEO of Casa Couture, who is a Lowell native, and winner at the MassChallenge 2011 business plan competition describe her journey from Lowell to becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Over 50 student projects will be on display the evening of April 25th at a Catalyst Showcase with opportunities for the audience to hear the student pitches and vote for their fan favorite.
The event fee, $30 for adults and $10 for students, will go towards a Catalyst Fund to support future student entrepreneurs.
