INTRODUCTION:
Founded in 1983, SPS's activities in Karnataka involve grassroots work, advocacy, and support activities in the agricultural sector. They promote community-based control of natural resources, which can be best achieved through empowerment of the rural poor and advocacy on their behalf.

MISSION/CORE VALUES:
SPS's mission is to empower the rural poor, especially landless laborers, marginal farmers, women, and scheduled castes and tribes.


OBJECTIVES:
SPS aims to continue acting in three areas:
Grassroots efforts: occurring in two districts of Karnataka, extended to Uttar Kannada and Dharwad.
Advocacy work: issues such as Panchayati Raj Institutions, Community Control over Natural Resources, Right to Information,
      and Right to Food.
Support activities: through a research and training center.

ACTIVITIES:
Implement a soil and land-use planning survey.
Continue organizing self-help groups (SHGs) to spread proper agricultural techniques (including appropriate doses of fertilizer,
      vermiculture, water-shed development structures, etc.
Link agricultural programs to Gram Sabha and Gram Panchayat (decision-making bodies).
Increase awareness of linkages between agricultural practices and forestry development.
Continue involvement with Right to Food and Right to Work campaigns.
Promote water and watershed development issues by acting as advocates.

INTENDED IMPACT:
Educate local villagers about the economic opportunities available in using the forest in a sustainable manner
Raising environmental awareness among villagers.
Prevent the exploitation of natural resources by outsiders.
Increase the income of farmers by introducing new products and services.
