RAJENDRA PRASAD
Rajendra completed his graduation in inspirational leadership for rural development. For the last four years, he worked for BAIF – Institute for Rural Development – Karnataka (BIRD-K), as a block program officer. The programme areas included soil and water conservation and community development projects. Before joining the Deshpande Fellowship Program he had been working on a mitigation of fluoride project. His career goal is to work in socioeconomic development in a position that promotes resourcefulness, innovation and flexibility. Rajendra feels that his willingness to learn is his strongest trait.
In his spare time, Rajendra is a keen follower of yoga. |

SANJEEV KULKARNI
Sanjeev is from Haveri district. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Economics at the Karnataka University, Dharwad. He worked with Vidya Poshak for two and quarter years as a branch office coordinator for Haveri and Chikkamagalur districts of Karnataka. At Vidya Poshak he handled the major projects and extended program support to additional projects both in the office and the field. He also worked at the VRL group of companies as a marketing executive for the publication section.
As a direct responsible branch office coordinator at Vidya Poshak, he has managed multiple responsibilities simultaneously like project implementation, field visits data management, community development, public relations, coordination of orientation functions, computerized library management, accounts, day-to-day routine office management and other project- specific activities.
In addition to his skill profile, he excels at public communication, data management, field visits, computer applications, internet, report and publication preparation, office maintenance, rapport building with stake holders and organizational behavior.
Swimming, traveling, photography, playing cricket, currency coin collection and learning about new software are his hobbies. Positive thinking, innovative and creative ideas, quick learning and smart work are his strengths.

SAVITA KALYANMATH
Savita received her MSW from Karnataka University, Dharwad. From March 2007 until June 2008, she worked as an ICTC Counselor on an HIV/AIDS project under the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society. Dancing and acting are her hobbies, and she believes that equal opportunity can be given to all through development. |

SHAHINA SULTHANA
Shahina was born and brought up in Gubbi Taluk, Tumkur District. She completed her bachelor's degree in sociology and her master's degree in social work from Garden City College, affiliated with Bangalore University. She worked for Mythri, an NGO, for about three years on urban poverty and urban environmental issues in Bangalore in both urban and rural districts
During these three years she went through the experience of working in various programs for struggling populations, including families living on the street, women's self-help groups, school children, waste pickers and the urban homeless.
Her specific areas of interest are 'sanitation' and 'water conservation' because she feels these are the needs of the hour. Most of her life is spent working to improve social and environmental conditions of urban and rural communities. Her hobbies include making friends, listening to music, dancing and having fun with colleagues. She's also passionate about shopping and traveling.

SHAKUNTALA PALANKAR
Shakuntala is a home science graduate (BHSc) from BhagwanShriSatyaSai Institute of Home Science for Women, Dharwad, which is affiliated with Karnataka University. She completed her school education from Kendriya Vidyalaya in Dharwad.
Shakuntala has worked as a telecaller and credit backend for Citi Financial Consumer Finance, Ltd. Currently, she is working as an extension officer for NAID – India (Neighbors Association for Integrated Development). Her responsibilities include reviewing progress reports, compiling monthly reports and giving feedback to the CEO. She is also involved with the Shikhar Education and Cultural Development Society.

SHRAVANI HAGARSI
Shravani received her bachelor’s degree in social work from St. Joseph’s College of Social Work, Dharwad. She recently started working for Sujala Watershed Project as a watershed assistant. She has also worked as a volunteer for Children's Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA). She looks forward to building on her present social entrepreneurship skills, namely, community organization, the ability to build rapport and social work administration. |

SIKANDAR MEERANAYAK
Sikandar was born and brought up in a rural environment where water was considered as precious as gold. As a result, he has had a lifelong interest in water preservation. After completing his graduation in social work, he joined “JalaNirmal,” a government project, as a community facilitator.
Following this, Sikandar joined Water Literacy Foundation, an NGO, and he has been working for them for the last year and a half. Specializing in roof/rainwater harvesting and farmland rainwater harvesting, Sikandar has worked to implement methods help to provide pure water, as these methods help to prevent people from suffering various health disorders. He is also interested in several other kinds of water harvesting, recharging and irrigation.

SOUMYA MARY ZACHARIAS
Soumya is from Changanacherry, Kerala. She received her BBA from the DC School of Management and Technology Vagamon, Idukki, Kerala. She then completed her MSW, with specialization in medical social work at Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappally, Tamil Nadu. As part of her post graduation program, she completed a social work project entitled “A Study on the Burden of Caregivers of Alzheimer’s.” Additionally, as part of her MSW Program, Soumya had a one month pre-employment training at Madras Medical Mission Hospital, Chennai.
On completion of her MSW, Soumya joined Greenpeace as a direct dialogue officer, where she worked since September 2007. She enjoys working in challenging, competitive and knowledge-enriching environments toward the greater development of social welfare.

SRIKANT VATAVATI
Shrikanta is from Haveri Distict, and he completed his post graduation in economics. For two and a half years he worked for the Population Research Centre J.S.S. Institute of Economic Research, Vidyagiri, Dharwad. Presently, Shrikanta is working in the Institute for Financial Management and Research, Chennai. There he has been conducting the Tumkur District Household Survey (Credit Scoring). |
